Human Resources
This page outlines the documents and steps you will need to initiate a recruitment. Please contact Human Resource Services if you have any questions or need any assistance with your recruiting efforts.
Step 1. Discuss the vacancy with your respective area’s Hiring (president/vice president) and Budget Authorities to gain verbal approval to begin the recruitment process.
Step 2. Complete the Staff/Faculty Recruitment Questionnaire, which informs Human Resources of your intent to conduct a recruitment. Among other items, this step includes uploading the formal position description for review.
Step 3. After gaining formal approval, which typically takes about ten (10) business days, Human Resources will post the job in Workday.
Step 4. The Search Chair follows the process as outlined in the Search Committee Chair Checklist. This includes but is not limited to arranging committee training with HR and ensuring completion of the Search Committee Confidentiality Agreement.
Step 5. Review the job posting and screen applicants. Workday will prompt the necessary next steps between the Search Committee Chair and Human Resources throughout the candidate assessment process. Awareness of the following resources will aid in expediting the search process:
- SOU’s guidelines for hosting candidates;
- Search Committee Recommendation Form;
- Reference Check Guide and form;
- Informing the prospective employee of SOU’s Benefits Package;
- Negotiating an employment offer that markets our SOU’s Total Compensation Calculator; and
- Utilizing the Supervisor’s Checklist to Onboard a New Employee
